The Reality is Christ
Out of the ancient trunk of Jesse, when all earthly hope seemed hewn to the ground, a single shoot breaks through the soil. He is the Branch of righteousness, rising from dry roots. The Hebrew whispers His name: *Qanah*—the Purchased, the Acquired, the One who possesses us. At the wedding of Cana, the water became wine, showing that the true Bridegroom had arrived to claim His own. Into this holy Vine, we who were wild and lost have been miraculously grafted, adopted into a lineage we did not deserve. Look upon the palm of His hand. It is a hand pierced by love, where your identity has been permanently engraved. This is the mystery of the ages: the generation of Jacob, those who wrestled through the dark, are now given a new name. We write upon our own flesh, "I belong to the Lord," and surname ourselves with the honor of Israel. But we do not look to the symbols, the rules, or the shadows of the past. The shadows flee away, for the ultimate reality—the substance, the root, the branch, and the price—is Christ. The Shoot from the Cut-Down Tree (Isaiah 11:1) * The Context of Despair: Isaiah 11 begins with a tree that has been completely leveled—the line of David looked dead, reduced to a mere stump. * The Prophetic Promise: But out of that seemingly dead root, a single, tender branch (Netzer) breaks forth. Jesus is the Root of Jesse. When human institutions, legacy, and strength fail, God raises life from the underground. Cana, Qanah, and Kanah: * Cana: It is no accident that Jesus performed his first sign at a wedding in Cana, turning water into wine. He was announcing the arrival of the true Bridegroom. * Qanah (Purchased): This Hebrew root reveals that we are not our own; we have been bought with a price. The Bridegroom purchased His bride. * Kanah (Surnamed/Established): Once purchased, we are immediately given the family name. We are legally established in the household of God. II. The Mystery of the Grafted Identity * The Olive Tree: Apart from Christ, we were wild branches, completely cut off from the promises of Israel. * The Great Inclusion: Through His grace, we are structurally grafted into the life-giving root. We now draw our identity, our nutritional life, and our spiritual authority from the Root of Jesse. * One New Man: This is the dismantling of ancient walls. Jew and Gentile are brought together into one single, unified body. The gospel stirs hearts, breaks down divisions, and brings a fragmented world into a unified reality. III. The Permanent Mark: The Pierced Hand (Isaiah 44:5) * Engraved on His Palms: Isaiah 44:5 paints a stunning picture of commitment: "One will say, 'I belong to the Lord'... and another will write on his hand, 'The Lord's'." * The Covenant Cost: Long before we could ever write His name on our hands, He engraved our identity onto His. Look to the cross—the ultimate mark is a pierced hand. The nail pierced the very center of His palm, sealing the purchase forever. * The Declaration: When you look at His hands, you see your freedom. Our response is to declare with our lives, our actions, and our identity: "I am the Lord's." IV. Generation Jacob: Seeking His Face * Wrestling in the Dark: Jacob was a deceiver, a man running from his past. Yet, he wrestled with God until he received a new name—Israel. * A New Generation: We are Generation Jacob—the generation of those who seek His face. We do not settle for outward religion; we seek the living presence of God. We are the people who surname ourselves with the name of Israel, stepping out of our old, broken identities and into our new, royal lineage. Conclusion: The Reality is Christ * Moving Past Shadows: Colossians reminds us that the feasts, the old structures, and the historical accounts were merely shadows of things to come. * The Substance: You cannot build your life on a shadow. The shadow of the temple points to a greater temple. The shadow of the lineage points to the true King. The reality is Christ. He is the substance, the root, the price, and the name that anchors our eternal nature. ## The Reality is Christ: Grafted, Surnamed, and Built on the Cornerstone Scripture Focus: Isaiah 11:1, Isaiah 44:5, Malachi 4:6, Ephesians 2:20-21, Colossians 2:17 Core Message: True reconciliation, generational healing, and family structure are impossible apart from Jesus Christ. Cana, Qanah, and Kanah: * Cana: Jesus begins His public ministry at a wedding, instantly demonstrating His authority over the covenant of marriage and family. * Qanah (Purchased): We are not our own; our homes and lives have been bought with a price. * Kanah (Surnamed/Established): Once purchased, we are legal members of the Household of Faith, carrying His family name. * The Grafted Identity: Apart from Christ, we were wild branches. By grace, we are structurally grafted into the life-giving Root, breaking down ancient walls to form One New Man—where Jew and Gentile stand together in one body. II. Christ the Chief Cornerstone: The Source of the Family * The Blueprint of the Household: In the ancient world, the cornerstone was the first stone laid. It had to be absolutely perfect because every other stone, angle, and wall in the entire structure was measured and aligned by it. * Reclaiming Ephesians 2:19-23: “Now, therefore ,you are no longer strangers and foreigners but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” * The Family’s True Alignment: * If a marriage or a family is aligned to the culture, it will lean and crumble. * If it is aligned to human perfection, it will crack under the pressure. * Jesus Christ is the source of the family because He is the original architect. True family health is not found in rules or traditions of men; it is found by squaring every relationship—husband to wife, parent to child—directly against the perfect lines of the Cornerstone. III. Turning Hearts: The Generational Healing (Malachi 4:6) * The Final Word of Prophecy: The Old Testament concludes with a stark warning and a profound promise in Malachi 4:6: "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction." * The Broken Line: Sin inherently fractures families. It causes parents to abdicate their spiritual duties and causes children to walk in rebellion. Left alone, this structural decay brings a curse upon the land. * The Turn Around: How do hearts turn? Malachi points forward to the preaching of repentance. This was echoed at Jordan by John the Baptist and fully realized in the Gospel of Jesus. * Reconciliation at the Cross: True generational healing cannot be manufactured by psychology or self-help. Hearts only turn toward home when they first turn toward God. When a father aligns his life with the Cornerstone, the natural fruit is a heart turned in compassion, sacrifice, and love toward his children. IV. The Permanent Mark: The Pierced Hand (Isaiah 44:5) * Our Eternal Security: Isaiah 44:5 depicts believers declaring their absolute allegiance: "One will write on his hand, 'The Lord's' and surname himself by the name of Israel." * The Ultimate Inscription: Before we could ever write His name, He marked ours. Our eternal security is anchored in the reality that the nail pierced the center of His palm, engraving our identity into His hands forever. * Generation Jacob: We are the generation of those who stop running, stop deceiving, and start seeking His face. We look past the temporary shadows of this world because we know that the true substance—the Root, the Cornerstone, and the Savior—is Christ.
